The murder of a 22 year old computer engineer in Godavadi village, Surat, remains unsolved despite an extensive forensic investigation involving thousands of fingerprints and dozens of DNA profiles. The woman was found dead on the terrace of her home on August 24, 2026, and investigators have so far been unable to identify a suspect through the available physical or digital evidence.
As part of the investigation, police and forensic teams collected approximately 28,000 fingerprints from around 1,400 people. Seven teams, each comprising two members, were deployed to collect and compare fingerprints. Two unidentified fingerprints recovered from inside the house did not match those of the victim’s family members. These impressions were sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for comparison with the fingerprints collected during the investigation.
Investigators also recovered a biological sample from a plate believed to have been used on the night of the murder. Forensic experts were able to obtain a DNA profile from the sample, but it has not matched any of the 80 individuals whose DNA has been examined so far, including family members, acquaintances and suspects. The absence of signs of forced entry has led investigators to consider the possibility that the victim may have known the person who entered the house.
Earlier forensic investigations also included psychological and narcoanalysis examinations of two suspects, but the reports did not provide a conclusive lead. Police have continued examining other investigative avenues while awaiting and analysing forensic and digital evidence. The victim’s mobile phone has also been subjected to forensic examination, while investigators have reviewed available technical information.
The case has therefore highlighted the role of large scale fingerprint screening and DNA profiling in investigations where conventional leads are limited. Despite the extensive forensic sweep, the identity of the perpetrator remains unresolved, and investigators continue to examine the available evidence for a breakthrough.
