Gurugram police examine emails, mobile phones, laptops and physical evidence in a double death case as post-mortem findings remain pending.

Gurugram | Police are investigating the deaths of a 30-year-old software engineer and his 28-year-old wife, who were found dead inside their rented apartment in Sector 68, Gurugram, on Thursday. Investigators are examining electronic devices, email records and physical evidence to establish the circumstances and sequence of events.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Aslam, an IT professional working with a technology firm in Gurugram, and his wife, Farhana. The couple, originally from Kerala, had reportedly moved from Bengaluru to Gurugram approximately three months ago.

Email Alert Led Police to the Apartment

According to police, the incident came to light after Aslam's colleagues received an email from him at around 7 a.m. on Thursday. The message reportedly referred to his intention to die and included contact details of family members and the landlord, with a request to inform them.

After receiving the email, colleagues attempted to contact the individuals listed in the message. The landlord subsequently alerted the police, prompting officers from the Badshahpur police station to reach the apartment.

Police reportedly found Aslam hanging inside the bedroom, while Farhana was found lying on the floor with injuries around her neck. A rope was also recovered near her body.

Digital Forensics to Examine Email and Electronic Devices

Investigators have seized mobile phones and laptops from the apartment for forensic examination. The devices may contain information relevant to reconstructing the events leading up to the deaths.

The examination is expected to focus on available electronic records, communications and the circumstances surrounding the email sent to Aslam's workplace. Investigators will need to assess the authenticity and timing of the message and correlate relevant digital findings with physical evidence and witness statements.

Digital evidence may help establish a timeline, but its significance will depend on the integrity of the recovered data, the circumstances in which it was obtained and its consistency with other investigative findings.

Post-Mortem Examination to Establish Cause of Death

Police suspect that Aslam may have killed his wife before dying by suicide. Investigators are also examining whether poisoning may have been involved. However, these remain investigative possibilities, and the precise causes and sequence of the deaths require confirmation through post-mortem examinations and further investigation.

The findings from the medical examination, together with the physical and digital evidence, will be important in determining what occurred inside the apartment.

Investigation Continues

Police have informed the families of the deceased and are continuing to investigate the circumstances and possible motive. According to reports published on October 16, no case had been registered at the time of reporting.

The case highlights the potential role of digital forensics in criminal investigations, particularly where electronic communications may provide leads about events preceding a suspected crime. Any final conclusions must, however, be supported by corroborated forensic findings and the outcome of the police investigation.
