A 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped and stabbed to death in Delhi, with four people including three juveniles—being apprehended in connection with the case, police said.
According to police, the victim knew the accused and had travelled with them in a tempo. Investigators allege that the group consumed alcohol inside the vehicle before the girl was sexually assaulted and later stabbed. Her body was subsequently allegedly dumped in an open field.
The severely decomposed body was discovered on September 13 near Jaipal Rana’s field on Kushak Road. Police said the condition of the body initially made it difficult to establish the victim’s identity and even determine her gender. Some parts of the body had been damaged by stray dogs, and one hand was found separated from the body. A medical examination subsequently confirmed sexual assault, according to police.
CCTV Analysis Helped Investigators Trace the Suspects
Police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
With no apparent eyewitness and the suspects initially unidentified, investigators examined footage from more than 50 CCTV cameras in and around the area. A tempo was spotted near the location around the suspected time of the crime. Although its registration number was not clearly visible because of darkness, police reportedly tracked its movements across several CCTV locations.
Following a night-long search operation during September 15–16, police traced the suspected tempo and questioned its driver. The investigation subsequently led to the apprehension of four people, including three juveniles aged 16 and 17.
The adult accused has been identified by police as Shivam alias Sudama alias Chuchu, a resident of Khadda Colony. Police said that two knives allegedly connected with the crime, clothing allegedly worn by the accused and the tempo were recovered.
Investigation Continues
Police said further investigation is underway to establish the complete sequence of events, determine the individual roles of those apprehended and examine the available forensic and technical evidence.
The case highlights the role of CCTV analysis, forensic examination and technical investigation in reconstructing a crime where there may be limited eyewitness evidence.
